Vanessa J. Hood

Vanessa J. Hood was born February 24, 1954, to the union of Evelyn J Wright and Ansel D Wright Sr both preceded her in death.

She was the oldest of 4 siblings from the union.  Vanessa attended Cleveland Public Schools. In 1970, Vanessa married James G Hood and five children were born to this union in which two daughters preceded her in death.  After 50 years of marriage, James G ( Jimmie)Hood Sr, was called to rest.

Vanessa worked in various careers including Cleveland police and MetroHealth hospital. She had volunteered in many positions including community activist and food bank.  She enjoyed shopping, crafts and baking. She had a natural eye for decorating and enjoyed sharing tips with others.  Vanessa was a woman of many talents. She had such a way of creating beautiful creations with her crocheting in her later years. Vanessa was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.

Vanessa was called to rest on December 10, 2023 and leaves to cherish her memory children: Coretta Wright-Crawford (Michael), James Hood Jr. and Ulysses (Earl) Hood; grandchildren: Frank , Kryon, Larice, Coretta, Shardae, Heavenly, James III and Jaliah. 5 great grandchildren: Kerlma’a, Di’Aire, Coretta, Jvonna, and Geremy.

She also leaves 2 sisters and 1 brother:  Renee’ (the late Rowlan) Cummings, Ansel Wright Jr and Suzette (Gordon Mays) Simmons: nieces: Yolanda, Alicia, and Kayla; nephews: Dana (Stephanie), Julius, DeShawn, Ansel and Jason;  great nieces: Kayla and Stephanie; great nephews: Tremayne aka Jermaine, Anthony and De’Marion;  Sister in Laws: Mary J (Samaritian) Page Jr,  Annie P Kemp( Frank), Reola Hood Brother in Laws: Ralph E Hood, Jr (deceased), George Hood, Ulysses Hood, Lavelle Hood (deceased) Raymond Collins(Joy) Cousin  Pastor Norris Hood and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.   

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. until time of Homegoing Service at 10:30 a.m., at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. Cleveland, OH 44111. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
