Stanley Ishman Battle

Stanley Ishman Battle was born August 24, 1954 in Gadsden Alabama to the late Lawrence Battle Sr. and Ruth Lipscomb Battle. Not long after Stanley’s birth, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, starting out on the east side of town and eventually settling into the house which would be the family home on Guardian Blvd. Soon after, Stanley and his older sister Sherry would be joined by brothers Lawrence, Jr. and Phillip to round out the family.

As a youth he played all of the sports in the neighborhood, little league baseball, football, and basketball.

Stanley attended Cleveland Public Schools. During this time, he honed in on his athletic skills, becoming a well-rounded athlete and star basketball player. He received his diploma upon graduation from John Marshall High School in 1972. After high school, Stanley attended Tri-C Community College. In 1979 he played with United Auto Workers Local 1250, which took the Eastern States Championship. 

Stanley worked many years at the Post Office, Grubach Trucking Service and USF Holland as a Truck Driver with over 40 years of trucking experience before retiring. Stanley had a love for restoring cars, trucks and motorcycles, and relaxing with friends. 

He had a love for dogs; Pit Bulls and Mastiff's, his beloved Mastiff's, Sapphire and Napoleon. 

Stanley the ever gruff, hard as nails man met and fell in love with the beautiful, kind-hearted Stephanie Mackey. Lifelong friends who met as children, made their union complete on April 2, 1999. A day Stanley said he couldn’t forget, it was also his mother’s birthday.

Stanley leaves behind to cherish his memory, His loving wife Stephanie, His mother Ruth Lipscomb-Battle, sister Sherry Boykin, brother Lawrence Battle, Jr., children, Tomra Howard, Juan Norman, and Juanita Norman, stepson Melvin "Shawn" Dailey, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and host of nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Stanley was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Battle, Sr. and brother Phillip Battle.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center 3556 W. 130th St. Cleveland, OH 44111.
