Roger Richard Nims, affectionately known as PopaLop, was born on August 22, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Albert & Mamie Nims. He was one of eight children and grew up surrounded by the love of family and community.
Roger attended John Adams High School. As a child, he attended the family church, Shiloh Baptist, and later became a member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. In 2014, after many years of hard work and dedication, he retired from Transtar Industries.
Roger was a man remembered for his strong presence, warm heart and unwavering devotion to his family. He was equally known for his sharp sarcasm and quick wit, which kept those around him laughing, smiling and sometimes shaking their heads. His humor and honesty left lasting impressions wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mamie Nims; his siblings, Marlene, Ralph and Kirk; and his grandson, Trent Tarin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Trent, daughters, Tara (Darryl) and Tamara, and his daughter-in-love, Yolanda. His grandchildren, Nautia (Javion), Tremaine, Jermaine, LyQwon and Trinity, along with his great-grandchildren, Zaire and Giovanni, will forever vary his legacy forward. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn (Donald), Patricia (widow of the late Gerald), Beverly (Darryl), Doris (Mark), along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved him dearly.
Roger will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a special soul whose presence lit up every room he entered. His unique mix of love, sarcasm, and wittiness, will never be forgotten. Though his passing leaves a deep void, his memory and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
