It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Raymond Pountney, known affectionately as Rich, who left this world on February 12, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on July 30, 1950, in Cleveland, Rich dedicated his life to education and service, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Rich's academic journey began at Borromeo Seminary, from which he graduated in 1968. His commitment to learning and teaching was exemplified through his esteemed career as a retired instructor from Ohio Technical College, where he inspired countless students and nurtured their talents. Furthermore, Rich was the Owner and Executive Director of the West Side Institute of Technology, a position that allowed him to contribute meaningfully to his community.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Rich proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1971. His honorable military service reflects his dedication and patriotism, values he carried throughout his life.

Rich had a passion for various interests that highlighted his vibrant personality. He was a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians, often seen cheering for his team with unbridled enthusiasm. Music also played an essential role in his life, with the band Journey holding a special place in his heart. Furthermore, he enjoyed engaging his mind through computer puzzles and games, the charm of old black and white movies and shows, and was an avid reader who cherished exploring numerous novels.

Rich's legacy is carried on by his beloved family. He was the devoted husband of Peg Pountney and a loving father to Anna Pullen (Sean Walsh), Becca Pountney (Greg Fox, deceased), Stephanie (Charles) DeBarber, Mary Jean Pountney (Reuben Himan), and Jessica Pullen (Chris Bryant). He took great pride in being a grandfather to nine grandchildren, each of whom he adored deeply.
