Mercedes Pena, born on March 17, 1953, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Mercedes was the beloved mother of Iris Jimenez, Justa Ivellisse Jimenez, and Lidia Flores (Daniel Flores), who have each cherished the lessons of kindness and strength that she imparted. She was a proud grandmother to Jaynellys Jimenez, Ashleen Vasquez (Joshua), Ezequiel Vasquez, Jeremy Vasquez (Paola), Kiara Vasquez, Jarelys Jimenez, Miguel Jimenez, Isabel Flores, and Caleb Flores, nurturing each of their journeys with her wisdom and support. Her role as a great-grandmother brought her immense joy, as she welcomed Jayris, Irialys, Sophia, Jarielys, Nefetary, Nelly, Jariana, Noah, Shayra, Eliezer, and Christian into her heart.
Mercedes is also remembered as a dear sister to Rafael Pena, Anibal Pena, and Hiram Pena (Lissette Rivera), with whom she shared a special bond.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Justa Sanchez and Francisco Pena, whose values she carried throughout her life.
The contributions Mercedes made to her family and the love she shared will remain etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings, all of whom strive to honor her memory in their daily lives.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center, 3556 West 130th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44111. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Riverside Cemetery 3607 Pearl Rd. Cleveland, OH 44109 (please meet at gates by 10:45 a.m.).
