Mattie P. King was born on August 30, 1946 to Robert Walker and Lucy Calloway, both deceased. She was the oldest of three daughters. An honorable mention goes out to Thelma King, an angel God sent to help raise and nurture her to become the woman we all knew and loved.
Mattie was educated in the Cleveland Public School system, where she was ultimately employed for over 30 years. She worked as a lunch aide and crossing guard at Newton D. Baker and Valley View schools, respectively. Mattie was a long time resident of the Riverside Park Estates, affectionately known as “the ROC”. While residing there, she was an active participant in many community projects, such as the lunch and vegetable programs and Toys for Tots. In addition to all this, she found time to be an avid member of the Local Advisory Council (LAC), a council that advocates for the residents of Riverside Estates, and be a community “MOM” to the children that lived there.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Renna Oliver (Cleveland, Ohio) and Evette Carroll (deceased). Her children Yolanda (Neicey), Sharon, Robert (Poochie), Deonte Sr. (Tank) and Antonio (Tony), all of Cleveland, Ohio. Her grandchildren; Latricia, Damita, LaWanna, Da Lisa, Jamal, Mariah, Kurt, Diamond, Kristrian Sr., Deonte Jr. and Kashton. Lastly, her great grandchildren; Kyera, Kyer, Hollie, Kalise, Keyonia, Alaya, Amir, Aviah, Kurt, DaWaun, Katalina, Kendrick, Jamaya and Kristrian Jr. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
