Mary Louise Kocour

Mary Louise Kocour, age 92, beloved daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Kocour. Loving sister of Betty Ann Kocour and Leonard F. Kocour (deceased) (Gwen). Dearest aunt of Elizabeth Ann Wilson (Dale) and the late Leonard A. Kocour (Teri).

Mary Lou Kocour’s career at the Cleveland Institute of Music represents an extraordinary legacy of teaching, musicianship, and service. An exemplary violinist and dedicated educator, she taught elementary theory and violin at CIM from 1957 to 2008, spanning more than five decades.

Her contributions were formally recognized in 2003, when she was inducted as Faculty Emeritus at the Cleveland Institute of Music. This distinction is highly selective. Eligibility for emeritus status requires at least 15 years of service at CIM, a record of recognized excellence in teaching, exemplary service to the Institute and the community, and the respect of colleagues and others.

Mary Lou Kocour far exceeded the minimum requirements, devoting 51 years to the education and development of CIM students. Her emeritus distinction therefore stands not simply as a title, but as a testament to the depth, longevity, and excellence of her contribution to the Cleveland Institute of Music and to generations of young musicians.

Family and friends are welcome Friday, August 14, 2026, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center 3556 W.130th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44111. Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 3395 E.53rd St., Cleveland 44127, where family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
