MARTIN J. HRABIK JR., age 78, beloved husband of 40 years to Kathleen (nee Kammerman); loving father of Martin III (Kathleen), Jennifer Tonkin (Scott) and Sarah Aufmuth (Kevin); proud Papa of Crystal (Josh) Watson, Martin IV (Sam), Cole (Anissa), Everly and Summer; great grandfather of 7, son of the late Martin Hrabik Sr. and Marie Hrabik (nee Pohorska); brother of George (Patti) and Mary Hrabik Samal; beloved uncle, great uncle, cousin and dear friend of many.
Martin was a man who lived by the values of faith, family, community, country, hard work, and education. As a young child, Martin and his family immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia.
Martin was a member of many Czech organizations including the American Nationalities Movement, Sokol Greater Cleveland, and Czech Catholic Union. Martin was also an active member of St. Procop before it closed, a Czech nationality church, participating in many community-based outreach programs, finance council and parish council. Martin was currently a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and participated in similar charitable activities.
Martin attended Benedictine high school before receiving his BS in Accounting and MBA from Cleveland State University. Martin was a highly regarded accountant for over 50 years with Walthall Drake and Wallace and obtained the position of managing partner. Martin had many leadership roles throughout his career including Chairman on the OSCPA State Committeefor relations with Accounting Educational Institutions and Cleveland State University and Kent State University advisory boards. In 2001 Martin was recognized for his outstanding lifetime achievement award by the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Association. In 2012 he was awarded Alumni of the year by Cleveland State University. Martin and his wife, Kathleen, founded an endowed scholarship fund for students in need at Cleveland State University.
In 2018 Martin was awarded the American Nationalities Movement Freedom Award for his philanthropic and humanitarian efforts to change the world. Martin loved his family deeply and will be sincerely missed.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. Cleveland, OH 44111. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 3395 E 53rd St. Cleveland, OH 44127 (please meet at church). Interment St. Joseph Cemetery (Avon, Ohio). A luncheon will be held immediately following the graveside service at Avon Oaks Country Club 32300 Detroit Rd. Avon, OH 44011.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church or Cleveland State University Martin and Kathleen endowed scholarship.
