Margaret Laird Hamilton

June 7, 1946 — March 1, 2026

Cleveland, Ohio

With deep love and heartfelt sorrow, we celebrate the life of Margaret Laird Hamilton, who peacefully departed this life on March 1, 2026.

Margaret was born on June 7, 1946, in Bessemer, Alabama, the eldest of four children. From an early age, she carried a natural sense of responsibility, strength, and compassion that would define her life. She has 3 siblings; Eddie and Andre, and her sister Brenda.

In her early adult years, Margaret married John Claude Laird, and together they built a family and later moved to Ohio. From this union came the greatest joys of her life, her children: Debbie (spouse, Eric Gray) Nioka (spouse, Bryan Bledsoe), Cheryl, Lillian, Eileen, John (Spouse Charlotte Laird), and Victoria. Margaret’s devotion to her children was unwavering; she nurtured them with wisdom, faith, and fierce, protective love.

In 1980, she found love again and married Thomas Hamilton, with whom she shared many meaningful years of companionship.

She was well known for her passion for others. She and other community members started the groundwork to initiate Weatherization Services in Cleveland, Ohio. Through hard work and dedication, she became Director of Weatherization Services at Mt Pleasant Now. After many years of service, she retired in 2013.

Margaret’s greatest pride and happiness came from her growing family. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her grandchildren — Crystal, Jonathan, Eric, Erica, Eboni, Carleena, Caleb, Carmyn, Moses, Alesha, Porsha, Shalia, Zipporah, Shema, and Jamille. She also experienced the joy of her beloved great-grandchildren, Harper, Gabriel, and Chloe. Each of them carried a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Margaret was known for her fiery faith and her endless compassion and deep sense community. She was faithful in her role as an Elder at New Dimension Church of Worship and Revelation for many years. She was a true reflection of Christ. Everyone who encountered her was impacted by her warm spirit, her resilience, and her deep love for family and anyone in need. Whether through her service to Jesus Christ, her work, her hobbies, or the simple joy she found in gathering loved ones together, she touched countless lives with kindness, wisdom, and a generous heart.

She leaves behind: Her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, beloved in laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends whose lives were blessed by knowing her.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, strength, and legacy will continue to live on in all who knew her.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and kind words during this difficult time. Your compassion and presence have brought us great comfort.
