Lowell Benton Thompson, 82, of North Olmsted, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 29, 1942, Lowell (Ben) proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before making his home in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1965. A man of deep integrity and dedication, he began his professional journey as a lineman for CEI from 1966-1968. In May of 1968, Ben joined the Cleveland Police Department and transitioned to the Lakewood Police Department the following year. After being injured in the line of duty, he continued his career with the Lakewood Building Department from 1978-1990 while simultaneously operating his own roofing business. In 1992, he opened Thompson Home Analysis, which reflected his commitment to quality, detail and community service.
Ben was a devoted member of Columbia Road Baptist Church. He loved Jesus and told everyone about Heaven.
Ben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. In February of this year, he and Patricia Carol Thompson (nee Bennett) celebrated 59 years of marriage-a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his cherished daughters: Pamela Brown (Luke), Melanie Harris (Thomas) and Brenda Cotleur (Daniel). Lowell is the proud grandfather of Alyssa, Caitlyn, Erin, Elisabeth, Mark, Liam, Ben, Joseph, Carter, John and David. He is the great grandfather to Quinn, Ella, Rhea, Everett, Bryce, Axel, Lily, Adalynn, Troy, Laiken, Silas and Claire.
He is also survived by his siblings: Reid Thompson (Carol), Bob Thompson (Faye, deceased), George Thompson (Rebecca), Winna Bee Richardson (Charles, deceased), Roger Thompson and Larry Thompson (Mary). He is the uncle of: Barbara, Clifton, Kevin, Valerie, Kim. Sheryl, Ashley, Christie, Beverly, Vincent, Michele, Heath, and Ginger.
Ben's memory will be treasured by all who knew him-for his quiet strength, his joking nature, his commitment to family, and his tireless work ethic. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was fishing or hunting, or playing golf with friends and family.
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Cleveland Baptist Church 4431 Tiedeman Rd. Cleveland, OH 44144, where funeral services will follow at 6 p.m.
