Jim Comiskey

September 7, 1944 — October 4, 2023

James A. Comiskey, Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away on October 4, 2023, in Westlake, Ohio. He was 79 years old.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 7, 1944. He was the oldest son of the late James A. and Marie (nee Mollauer) Comiskey, Sr., and the brother of the late Rosemary, Rita, Judy, and Thomas. He grew up in the West Boulevard neighborhood and attended St. Ignatius of Antioch grade school and the former West Side Institute of Technology.

From November, 1963 to November, 1967, Jim served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, where he rose through the ranks and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

In the early 1980s, Jim began working for Cudell Improvement, a neighborhood community development organization after successfully completing a whole catalogue of technical classes with the Ohio Department of Development. He was also the backbone of Cudell’s highly successful Home Weatherization Assistance Program that provided millions of dollars of energy conservation grants to help relieve the energy burden on income eligible households. He was recognized throughout Ohio for his knowledge and dedication for others.

In his later years, Jim was proud to work for Walter Martens and Sons Funeral Home where he worked as a funeral associate, as well as overseeing building maintenance and grounds care. He enjoyed the assistance he was able to provide the families, and the families often commented on his kindness and attention to details.

Jim was also a member for many years at West Park Knights of Columbus Council 2790, where he was a 3rd Degree member along side his brother Tom, and their father.

Jim’s family and friends will always remember him for his love of his family and friends; his love of animals regardless of the type of animal it was. He enjoyed good movies and loved fishing with his cousin, Tim, and son, Brian, which included some good catches especially during this last summer. He had a good Irish temper with a love of all things Irish. A kind, loyal and fun-loving person, Jim will be missed by all whose life he touched.

Jim was the beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Maxim); devoted father of Brian (Elizabeth) Comiskey and step-father of Mark Masony, Jennifer (Michael) Balzer, Katy (Eric) Hammond and Matthew (Melissa) Vincel; loving grandfather and great-grandfather of many.

His death reunites him with his parents, James and Marie Comiskey; siblings, Rosemary (John) Dobson, Rita (John) Loksa, Judy (Allan) Runyeon, and Thomas; and his beloved daughter, Jennifer Iacullo.
