Jennifer Usry Weber

Jennifer was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Thomas Edwin Usry, Sr and Joyce Compton Usry. She grew up in Belvedere subdivision in Decatur, Georgia, and Stone Mountain, Georgia, with her brother, Tom. She graduated from Clarkston High School in 1978.

Jennifer attended North Georgia College and received a degree in Finance from Georgia State University. This served her family well because she managed the household finances. She was a lifelong learner and studied Creative Writing, History, Exercise, and other topics. Jennifer loved languages. As an adult learner, she studied Spanish, German, and French. In 2017, she was inducted into the collegiate foreign language honor society, Alpha Mu Gamma.

Jennifer married Thomas Weber in 1991. They met at AT&T in Atlanta. They lived in Louisville, KY; the Atlanta metro area; Overland Park, KS; Godfrey, IL; Virginia Beach, VA; and Evansville, IN. Jennifer and Thomas were partners in their marriage; although, Jennifer’s strong support and sacrifices allowed Thomas to complete a doctoral program which allowed them more freedom to pursue hobbies they enjoyed.

Jennifer loved to travel. She visited 29 of the US states and 11 countries. Throughout their marriage, Jennifer and Thomas visited friends and family throughout the United States. They traveled to a number of beautiful locations. Her most interesting and extensive travels were to Europe. She planned three long European trips for her and Thomas. The longest was 3 months during which they visited over 25 different German towns and cities. In the second longest, they spent 1 month in France including the French Riviera. She loved the Mediterranean coast. In the third, they experienced a European Christmas market cruise.

Besides keeping herself mentally challenged, she kept herself physically fit through lifelong gym memberships, eating well, learning what made her body stronger – and doing it, walking, and hiking. Her spiritual journey was also very important. She attended church throughout her life which included Baptist, Presbyterian, Unity, and UCC churches. She also joined small groups to study the Bible, soul growth, meditation, and other means of spiritual development. She even created one important practice which she called Coffee-tating which she did nearly every day.

Of course, she was a coffee connoisseur which is a strong trait in her family. Jennifer loved good food. This included going to good restaurants, trying new foods, and cooking. She was famous for her cast iron corn bread. She also always came back to her Mama’s pound cake and biscuits.

Jennifer loved beautiful things. She loved chasing sunsets, rainbows, and the Aurora Borealis which she was able to see during two periods in Evansville. She loved animals and especially her three dogs. She loved her friends and family. She loved Thomas. She was generous and financially supported her church, the Vanderburgh Humane Society, Public Broadcasting, friends, and family.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by Tom, Susan, and Addie Grace Usry, 11 more nieces and nephews, and her husband Thomas. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Celebrations of Life for Jennifer Usry Weber will be held in several locations to honor and celebrate her life. An Atlanta Celebration of Life will take place on July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, 3700 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, Georgia 30096 (770-497-0233), and will be followed by a luncheon. 

An Evansville Celebration of Life will be held on August 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Evansville Eagles Aerie 427, 6000 Old Boonville Highway, Evansville, Indiana (812-477-9208), and will be followed by a traditional "Sunday Dinner." Those planning to attend the Evansville gathering are kindly asked to RSVP to Thomas Weber. 

Additional Celebrations of Life are being planned for Virginia Beach and Haverford, Pennsylvania, with dates and details to be announced.
