Jennie Sue Donnelly Green, age 78, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on June 12, 1945 in Durham, North Carolina to the late Abner Kieran Donnelly and Hilda Mae (Hunt) Donnelly. She was raised in Louisville, Kentucky and graduated from Waggener High School. She lived, studied, and worked for many years in Atlanta, Georgia. She had been residing with her youngest son and his family in Cleveland since 2020.
Jennie married the late David Tyler Robbins, Sr. in 1964 and together they had 3 children, before divorcing several years later. She was a proud single mother, raising her family while working full time as a high school Latin teacher and continuing her graduate studies at night and on weekends. She was a dedicated, loving, and proud mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Amanda Kieran Robbins DiCarlo (Rafael), David Tyler Robbins, Jr. (Ammee), and Jesse Hunt Robbins (Brittain Lamoureux), as well as her cherished grandchildren Tyler Rose Robbins (18), Kieran Kathleen Grace DiCarlo (16), Lucia Brittain Robbins (15), Tanner Thomas Robbins (15), Giavanna Olga DiCarlo (14), and Ellery Catherine Robbins (11).
Jennie was an accomplished scholar. She earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist’s degrees in Education from Georgia State University in English and Latin, along with several advanced teaching certifications. She earned a second Specialist’s degree from Valdosta State University in Educational Technology. She was a doctoral candidate at Georgia State University in Educational Leadership, at the University of Georgia in Comparative Literature, and at Valdosta State University in Curriculum Instruction and Technology.
Jennie had a love for teaching and shared her passion for Latin and literature with hundreds of students over her career of over 40 years. She taught at the high school and college level throughout the state of Georgia, in addition to writing and designing curriculum. Following her retirement from teaching, she continued to educate through online tutoring as long as she was able. She also served as Scribe and Proctor for American Mensa.
Jennie’s favorite things in life were family, literature, art, and travel. She was strong in her Christian faith. She also enjoyed British television dramas and delicious American cuisine. Jennie is deeply loved and greatly missed.
