Irvin Marcellus Rowan

Irvin Rowan, 78, of Sutton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025. Born on November 19, 1946, in Sutton, Irvin was the son of the late Goldie Ruth Rowan and Griffin Rowan. He was known for his unwavering dedication to family and his strong work ethic.

Irvin is survived by his loving wife, Helen, and his children: John, Tiandre, Hubert, Goldie, Jessica, and Richard (Kelly). He was a proud grandfather to Samantha, Sydney, Sara, Gabriel, Chris, Taylor, Jack, Gabriel, Lily, Carley, Reagan, and James. He is also survived by his brother Roy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Molly (Hubert); his parents, Goldie Ruth and Griffin Rowan; his sisters Nancy, Rene, and Ruby; and his brothers Hubert (Jack), Carey, Hershel, Jerry, Ben, Otis, and Everett.

Irvin was known by many names: Uncle One, Dad, Papaw, and Husband. He was a loving father who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. In his earlier years, he spent time studying law and teaching English—always eager to share what he knew. He had a playful streak too, often surprising those around him with a French phrase or two that never failed to bring a smile. His devotion to his family was matched only by his tireless drive to provide and care for those he loved. He worked hard, loved deeply, and lived with a generosity of spirit. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
