Evaristo Santiago Bermudez

Evaristo (“Shorty”) Santiago Bermudez passed away peacefully on March 9, 2022, at the age of 93 with his loving wife of 64 years, Carolyn Sue (nee Taylor) by his side. He leaves behind six of his seven children Margarita (“Kathy”) (Eugene) Jurco, Luz Elena, Evaristo (“JR”) Jr., Charles (“Chuck”), Raquel (“Rocky”) (John) Michalosky, Miguel (“Mickey”), 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and is preceded by his daughter Anna, one grandson and one great-grandson that all left this world too soon. He was born October 27, 1928 in Playa, Yabucoa Puerto Rico to Fulgencia Vazquez Diaz and Victor Santiago Bermudez. He is preceded by his siblings Josefina (“Fina”), Jose (“Joe”), and Mariano (“Mario”) and is survived by his siblings Bienvenido (“Benny”), Fulgencia (“Caya”), and Maria Teresa (“Teri”). He did not receive much formal education and began working in the sugar cane fields at a very early age. Even without formal education, he was very good with numbers, math, and making money stretch. He came to Cleveland, Ohio in 1952 for work and that is where he met the love of his life and they raised their family. He retired from the House of Plastics after 27 years and started his second career babysitting his grandson and great-granddaughters. His calm demeanor and always laughing nature were well suited for spending time with his grandchildren. He spent a lifetime fixing everything around the house using his resourcefulness and ingenuity to get the job done. Even at the end, he would spend hours “fixing” things and laughing. He spent his life providing for and caring for his family and for that he is the greatest man, that those of us that were lucky enough to have him in our lives, will ever know. We will never forget you and those dimples.  Family and Friends are welcome on Monday, March 14, 2022, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Slone & Co.
