Eugene P. Field

December 30, 1937 — June 3, 2024

Cleveland, Ohio

Eugene P. Field, known affectionately as Gene to those who had the privilege of knowing him, slipped the surly bonds of Earth, put out his hand, and touched the face of God, on June 3, 2024. At the age of 86, he was surrounded by the warmth and love of his most precious wife and loving family.

Born to Robert and Elizabeth Field on December 30, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, Gene arrived as a late Christmas gift to his family, eventually becoming one of eight siblings.

Gene’s life was lived with passion and a strong work ethic. Over the span of 65 years, he dedicated his life to being an auto mechanic, having a shop for many years on Ridge Road. Beyond fixing cars, he immersed himself in the world of racing, where he would construct and drive race cars. His spare time would lead him to books, where he became an avid reader.

A lover of the sky and the freedom it can bring, Gene would dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings as a private pilot for many years, sharing numerous adventures with those he loved.

A diehard supporter of the Cleveland Indians, Gene found joy in their victories. Summer evenings would find him sharing special moments with Pat on the porch cheering for the team while proudly flying their Indians flag outside their West 99th Street home.

Family held a special place in Gene’s heart. He was blessed to have married his best friend and lover, Patricia “Pat” Field. This union blossomed into a legacy through their cherished children, Linda and Richard. As a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, he took pride in witnessing his family grow and flourish.

Gene touched the lives of many with kindness and unwavering loyalty towards friends and loved ones. He found immense joy in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a dedicated supporter of the Cleveland Fire and Police Departments, Gene epitomized the community spirit in the neighborhood.

In addition to his beloved wife Patricia, Gene is survived by his children, Linda C. (Christopher C "Fuzz".) Jarus and Richard A. Field; grandchildren, Tiffany (Eric) Koppenhofer, Chris “Pooch” Jarus, Meghan and McKenzie Field and great-grandchildren, Logan and Madison Koppenhofer; his dear sisters, Janet and Annette; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

His death reunites him with his parents, Robert and Elizabeth, and siblings, Robert, Judy, Mary, Margaret and David.
