Delois "Dee" McCoy Benson

July 16, 1945 — April 26, 2025

Strongsville, Ohio

Delois McCoy Benson (Dee), the third of nine children, was born on July 16, 1945 to George and Sennie Evans McCoy. She accepted Christ early in life, and was baptized by Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth at Bethel Baptist Church collegeville, Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from G.W. Carver High School in january, 1963. She furthered her education at Baldwin Wallace College and Capital university. Dee retired from AT&T after 32 years of service.

On November 22, 1969, she united in marriage to Dorkas Benson, Sr., and this union was blessed with three sons, Dorkas jr., Derrick, and Darryl. A bonus son/Godson,Jaizonne Holivay, was later added to this family.

Dee's life was defined by her faith in God, love for family and friends, and her gift of leadership. Her faith guided her work at Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Cleveland Ohio. There, she served in several capacities: Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, Culinary team, Financial Secretary, and other services when called upon. She enjoyed working with numbers, and her tenure as Financial Secretary was one of her peak experiences. She faithfully served in this capacity until her illness.

Dee exhibited her love for others by preparing meals and visiting with those who were ill, providing transportation to and from visits to doctors' offices, visits to hospitals, phone calls, and gifts. Family was very important to her, and she always sought to be the peacemaker among her siblings of eight girls and one boy. She showered her children and grandchildren, nieces, and nephews with unconditional agape love. She will be missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on.

Dee was predeceased by her parents, one sister, Barbara, and one brother, Robert. Those left to cherish her memory are: devoted husband, Dorkas, to whom she was married for 56 years; Sons: Dorkas jr.(Corey), Derrick (Chasidy), Darryl (Toni), and godson Jaizonne. She will also be remembered by eight grandchildren: Destinee, Jordan, Jayden, Chloe, Darryl Jr., Dymir, Davionne, and Dasia; six sisters: Volena M. Barr (Nelson), Georgia M. O'Neal (Clifford), Linda M. Bryant, Janice M. Blackmon, Vynessa M. Gibbs (James), and Cynthia McCoy; one Aunt Mary E. Crosby. Additionally, she will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Second Calvary Church family.
