Ceola Estell Travis-McDowell, age 76, passed away in her sleep on October 29, 2025. She was born on August 9, 1949, in Coatopa, Alabama, to her loving parents, the late William Travis and Beatrice Wabbington.
Beloved mother of her only child, Staci Simpson. Cherished grandmother of Donovan Isaiah Williams and Kaya Nate`McCluney. Dear sister of Virginia Sigler, Beatrice Marshall, Freddie Warren, and Lilly McGhee, and the late William Travis, Jr. and Eddie Ross Travis. Treasured aunt to a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Ceola dedicated much of her life to God, church, and her immediate family. She worked as a teacher for the Cleveland Municipal School District for 24 years; prior to that she worked as an Assistant to the Professor in the Music Department at Case Western Reserve University, where she would later receive her Master’s Degree in English. She had a creative spirit and a warm personality, often expressing herself through poetry, playing the piano, and designing crafts. Ceola also loved watching her favorite shows, including Say Yes to the Dress, Family Feud, Sherri, The View, and Sistas.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. until time of Service at 11 a.m., at Holy Name Church 8328 Broadway Ave, Cleveland, OH 44105. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
