Barbara Ann Platts Hood, 75, passed away on Friday, July 21st, at North Olmsted Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility after bravely battling a lengthy illness. She was born on October 16, 1947, to Alberta Platts and Dace Talmadge and spent her entire life in her beloved hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Barbara’s early years were shaped by the love of her parents and siblings, Margaret (Peggy) Fuller and Clifford Raymond Miller, who preceded her in death.

Barbara’s journey of education and dedication to nursing began at John Adams High School. She further honed her skills, earning her License to Practice Nursing from Cuyahoga Community College and later achieving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ursuline College. Nursing became her life’s passion, and she served with utmost commitment at institutions like the Cleveland Clinic, Metropolitan General Hospital (Metro Health), and as the Director of Nursing at Multi Care Home Health agency for over 15 years.

Her strong faith in God led her to Imani Church of Christ in Euclid, Ohio, where she was an active member. Barbara devoted herself to various boards, committees, and guilds within the church, reflecting her selfless nature and desire to serve others.

In addition to her professional and spiritual pursuits, Barbara was deeply devoted to her family. She lovingly raised two sons, Byron Maurice Hood and Ralph Emerson Hood III, who meant the world to her. Not only was she a wonderful mother, but she also played a vital role in the lives of her sister’s four children, actively contributing to their upbringing and shaping them into exceptional adults. Barbara’s caring nature extended to her grandsons and her nieces’ four children, whom she showered with love and guidance.

Barbara was known for her genuinely kind and sweet spirit, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. She had a zest for life, enjoying travel and visits to casinos in various states. Even in her later years, she remained a pillar of support for her adult sons, offering a listening ear and wise counsel whenever needed.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Barbara is survived by her two loving sons, along with her caring daughter-in-law Tyline Hood, and two grandsons, Benjamin O’Neal and Langston Maurice Hood, all residing in Cleveland, Ohio. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law Linda Miller, three nephews, Khalid Cedric Fuller (Raquia), Rodirigus Fuller (Kimberly), and Danny Fuller (Stephanie), and a devoted niece, Kenda Suzette Amin (Daa’ood), all living in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Her memory will also be cherished by three great-nephews, Yasser, Ali, and Mahdi Woodard, and one beloved great-niece, Iman Woodard, from Atlanta, GA. Further honoring her life are three great-great-nieces and one great-great-nephew, along with her lifetime friends Geneva Milton, Jeanette Jackson, and Sis.
