Andy Killian

Andy Killian  January 21, 1943 - May 12, 2023

Andy was born in Kew Gardens, New York and having a father in the US Coast Guard, moved often, settling in Lakeside, Ohio. He attended Baldwin Wallace University in Berea where he was active in the theater.

Andy taught English in the Cleveland Work Study Program then at Cleveland Extension High School and Night School, totaling 38 years. And to add to his love of teaching, he volunteered with Kiwanis, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Beck Center Theatre in Lakewood, Baldwin Wallace University and Stephen Ministry at Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village.

And yet while Andy was proud of his volunteering, his crowning accomplishment was being a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, 47 years sober. This wonderful organization gave him back his life and purpose and consequently, he gave back to helping others, which seemed to be his calling.

And he was fortunate to have met the love of his life in later years, Susan Cartier. 

It was Andy’s nature to explore, to listen and be curious, to learn, to help, to enjoy living and to laugh, and of course, he taught us all. Andy lived a full and happy life and will be missed deeply by those who loved him.

Andy is survived by his sister Jean Silva from San Diego and she is eternally grateful for the love and compassion of his friends.
